Agro-industrial parks

Agro-industrial parks (AIPs) have the ability to spark regional and international value chain integration, export competitiveness, natural resource efficiency, higher investments, and economic spillovers that positively affect jobs, incomes, and industrial know-how. This study identifies the most common pitfalls and success factors and makes recommendations for how donors and development finance institutions can better support AIPs.

Industrial policy in Uganda

Our research on industrial policy resulted in three papers. Industrial Policy for Economic Transformation in Uganda sets out an analytical framework for understanding the factors that drive and shape industrial policy outcomes, analyses those factors in the Ugandan context, and provides high-level recommendations for industrial policy in Uganda. Delivering Industrialisation examines what it takes to successfully implement industrial policies based on the global experience and makes the case for a President’s Industrialisation Delivery Unit in Uganda. Adding Value to Uganda’s Wood studies one high-potential industrial seetor and sets out what an industrial strategy for the sector might look like, taking the wood praducts sector as a case study.

Uganda Entrepreneurial Ecosystems Initiative

CDA led a consortium that carried out a diagnostic study and designed this initiative in 2018. The team mapped and assessed the current policies, programmes and organisations supporting highgrowth SMEs, carried out a diagnosis of the binding constraints to firm growth, and designed a detailed multi-stakeholder strategy to lift these constraints.
